Q
What are key facts to know with R.B. Braithwaite and truth claims?
A
- Braithwaite’s view is that the problem of conflicting truth-claims of the world’s religions can be addressed by suggesting (for example) that different cultures and religions respond to and interpret ‘God’ in different ways
- Braithwaite states that one answer is that their different beliefs are non-cognitive interpretations which nevertheless share the same common denominator
- Braithwaite’s idea is that religious language is not literal, his main idea follows Wittgenstein’s idea that the meaning of RL is found in it’s use. Braithwaite states religious language is used conatively
