3 Levels of Reflective Listening
Level 1: Repeating or rephrasing: Listener repeats phrases and mirrors exact content
Level 2: Paraphrasing: Listener makes a restatement in which the speaker’s meaning is inferred, seeking to understand any subtleties that are not clear on the surface of the communication.
Level 3: Reflection of feeling: Listener emphasizes emotional aspects of communication through feeling statements. Listener acknowledges the power of the emotions that are at play in the situation. This is the deepest form of listening.
