Bulimia nervosa
A. Recurent episodes of binge eating, characterized by both of the following
- Eating within a discrete period of time and amount of food that is larger than what people would eat
- A sense of lack of control B. Recurrent compensatory behavior to prevent weight gain e.g. laxative, vomiting fasting, excessive exercise,
C. Occurs at least once a week for three months
D. Self-evaluation is heavily influenced by body shape and weight
E. Not occurring during episodes of anorexia nervosa
Anorexia
A. Restriction of energy’s intake leading to low body weight B. Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat or persistent behavior that interferes with weight gain C. Disturbances in way ones body shape is experience, Specific type Restrictive: individual has not engaged in recurrent episodes of binge eating or purging behavior. Weight loss accomplished primarily achieved through dieting fasting and exercise Binge eating/purging: individual has engaged in recurrent episodes of bring eating or purging behavior (purging is larger than binging)
Binge eating
A. Recurent episodes of binge eating, characterized by both of the following 1. Eating within a discrete period of time and amount of food that is larger than what people would eat 2. A sense of lack of control B. Binge eating episodes associated w: 1. Eating too much or much more than usual 2. Eating til uncomfortably full 3. Eating a large amount when not physically hungry 4. Eating alone bc of feeling embarrassed by how much one is eating 5. Feeling disgusted with oneself C. Marked distress regarding binge eating I’d present D. Binge eating once a week for 3 months E. Not associated w recurrent use of innapropriate compensatory behavior like bulimia nervosa
Obsessive compulsive disorder
A. Presence of obsessions, compulsions or both: Obsessions: recurrent and persistent thoughts urges or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance as Compulsions: repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the individual feels driven to perform in response to an obsession or according to rules that must be applied rigidly; the behaviors are intended to reduce the stress of the obsessions to prevent some dreaded situation B. Obsessions or compulsions are time consuming (more than an hour a day) or cause clinically significant distress or impairment C.
