diagnoses Flashcards

(Alexis from softball not understanding my message)
Carpal tunnel
compression of median nerve @ wrist. Wrist cock up with 10-12 degrees extension. Can use Phalen’s test, Tinel’s sign, Durkan test
Agnosia
Inability to recognize common objects and demonstrate their use in an activity
(Not to brag but he doesn’t know objects so he won’t be able to use me like one)

ideomotor apraxia
difficulty gesturing and pantomiming
conduction apraxia
difficulty imitating gestures
motor apraxia
difficulty completing planned movements
athetoid
uncontrolled movement and widely fluctuating tone (CP)
Broca’s aphasia
broken speech
wernicke’s aphasia
difficulty understanding speech
dequervian’s
thickening of tendons
–>
stenosing (narrowing)
–>
impaired tendon gliding in first dorsal compartment
(BOI position; ulnar deviation and thumb abduction)
akinetic catatonia
- Immobility
- Mutism
- Staring
- Rigidity
excited catatonia
- Psychomotor agitation
- Need to move around
- Echopraxia
Akathesia
side effect of anti-psychotic drugs
rocking back and forth
restlessness
hand tremors
shaky legs
similar to tardive dyskinesia
dysmetria
inability to control the distance, speed, and range of motion necessary to perform smoothly coordinated movements
nystagmus
eyes overshoot or undershoot target
athetosis
- Overactive basal ganglia
- Slow and writhing movements
chorea
- Repetitive
- Brief
- Irregular, rapid
- Involuntary
movement disorder that causes sudden, unintended, and uncontrollable jerky movements of the arms, legs, and facial muscles
ex. huntington’s
unilateral congenital UE amputations
MS
Individuals may begin to notice symptoms such as an incoordination or paresthesias of limbs, trunk, or face, as well as an overall fatigue.
seen at 20 - 40 years old
Dequervian’s
Pain with resisted thumb extension or abduction
Positive Finkelstein’s test Can be caused by forceful, repetitive motions involving the thumb
Pain with activities such as wringing out washrags, opening jars, and using scissors
Swelling over the first dorsal compartment of the thumb
lateral epicondylitis
tendinitis where there is point tenderness over the lateral epicondyle
Grip strength is reduced when the elbow is extended and there are complaints of nighttime aching and morning stiffness of the elbow
cubital tunnel syndrome
ulnar nerve compression in the elbow. Numbness and tingling in the ulnar distribution of the hand is noticed.
myelomeningocele T9 and below
self-initiated pressure relief
what precautions for chickenpox?
use airborne precautions
tardive dyskinesia
movement disorder that causes a range of repetitive muscle movements in the face, neck, arms and legs
pseudo- Parkinsonism
side effect that appears as behaviors similar to the symptoms of advanced parkinson’s
rigidity
pill-rolling tremors
masked face
shuffling gait
negative symptom of schizophrenia
akinesia
