Diabetic retinopathy & vascular occlusions Flashcards
what r the stages of diabetic retinopathy?
- Background Retinopathy
- Pre-proliferative Retinopathy
- Proliferative Retinopathy
- Maculopathy
- Backround retinopathy have the dots and blots*
- preproliferative have got the cotton wool spots*
- dont forget the loops and beads*
proliferative start to bleed
it all ends with edemaoutous maculopathyyyyyyy

give 4 characteristics of Pre-proliferative Retinopathy
2/3 is preproliferative
venous loop & venous beading
multiple CWS, blot hemmorhages

proliferative retinopathy characteristics?
most common seen in type 1 diabetes
not enough blood supply, tissue necrosis, but body has some capactiy to compensate
new vessels form (rubiosis) or u can see it on the optic disk or elsewhere!
new vessels so weeks–> vitrous hemmorhage!
diabetic maculopathy
focal, diffused, ischemic, mixed, central involving
type 2 diabetics most common cause of blindess?
diabetic maculopathy!
central retinal vein occlusion
