-History of gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary disease, or delivering an infant larger than 9 pounds
-Smoking
-African-American, Native American, or Hispanic
-Male

Diet, exercise, sedentary lifestyle, hypertension, family history, history of gestational diabetes, smoker
Assessment/physical assessment
-Blood glucose measurement
-Polyuria (lots of urine)
-Polyphagia (really hungry)
-Polydipsia (really thirsty)
Acute complications of diabetes
Diabetic keto acidosis (DKA) and hyperglycemic hyperosmolar state (HHS)
Chronic complications of diabetes
Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy, and diabetic nephropathy
