what is type 1 diabetes?

A

type 1 diabetes is where cells within the islets of langerhans that produce insulin are destroyed by an autoimmune disease. islets of langerhans produce insufficient insulin and this tends to develop during childhood. it requires insulin injections

what is type 2 diabetes?

A

type 2 diabetes is where islets of langerhans produce insulin, but target cells do not respond to insulin production, cause by down-regulation of insulin receptors on target cells. this tends to develop during adulthood, and requires lifestyle changes
