What is diabetes?

A
Body’s own immune system attacks the cells int he pancreas that produce insulin

A
- pancreas does not produce enough insulin and /or the bodies tissues do not respond properly to the actions of insulin

why would older ageing population have increased risk of hyperglycemia?

- change in carb metabolism
- poor diet
- dec. activity
- dec. lean body mass
- altered insulin secretion
- inc. fat tissue

- bath, dry and lubricate (not between toes)
- closed-toed well fitting shoes
- no barefoot, shave calluses or soak feet
- trim toe nails straight
