A
- opposed by conservatives as diminishes the power of the state
- mostly supported by Labour but fear regions may compete with one another
- Supported by Liberal Democrats as part of their belief in decentralisation

A
- Labour held a referendum in 1998 for an elected Mayor and Assembly - 72% yes vote 34% turnout
- powers over transportation, policing, housing etc
- Uses AMS

- Referendums proposed were cancelled in Yorkshire and North West England - few real powers were offered 78% NO vote
- Mayor of North East was elected on 7th of May 2024

- Would end asymmetric devolution
- Would end West Lothian question
- Decentralise Government to England
- Could be a federal UK
- Could be based in the North

A
- Would almost replicate the UK Parliament
- Would dominate the other assemblies
- Very little support for this proposal
- Would increase nationalism in the other three countries
