Recognized violation of cultural norms
ex. Robbery, theft, rape

Now - connection for crime is genetics & social influences

What is structural functionalism?
a society serves a purpose, and each is indispensable for the continued existence of the others and of society as a whole.
Structural-Functional Analysis on deviance? Durkheim’s insight
1) Deviance affirms cultural values and norms.
2) Responding to deviance clarifies moral boundaries.
3) Responding to deviance brings people together.
4) Deviance encourages social change.
