Developmental milestones Flashcards
At 2 Years old- what are the GROSS MOTOR milstones?
- Walks alone
- Climbs onto & down from furniture unassisted
- Walks up & down stairs holding on to support
- Begins to run
- Walks into a large ball when trying to kick it
- Squats with complete steadiness
- Throws small ball overhead
- Stands on Tiptoe
At 2 years old what are the FINE MOTOR skills?
- Scribbles on his/her own
- Imitates vertical or circular strokes
- Turns over container to pour out contents
- Builds tower of 6 blocks or more
- Begins to sort out shapes & colours
- Begins to make believe play
At 2 years old what are the SPEECH and LANGUAGE developmental milestones?
- 50 words plus
- Telehraphic speech (2 word sentences)
At 2 years old what are the SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL
- Imitates behaviour of others esepcially adults & older children
- More aware of him/herself as separate from others
- Demonstrates increasing independence
- Begins to show defiant behaviour
What are developmental milestones?
The median age children develop specific behaviours and abilities
What are the posture & large movements that should be developmed by an infant @ 4 months
Able to support head
Neonates show minimal control of neck flexors & when pulled to sitting position the head lags behind arms & shoulders
How old should a infant be to support their head?
4 months
What are the gross motor/ locomotion movements that are developed by:
3-4 months?
Prone to supine (front to back)
What are the gross motor/ locomotion movements that are developed by:
5-6 months?
Supine to prone
When is Prone to Supine
and
Supine to prone
Gross movement/ Locomotion developed by?
a) 3-4months
b) 5-6 months
When can a baby:
a) Sit with assistance
b) Sit unaided
(trunk control/ sitting)
a) 6 months
b) 9 months
By 6 and 9 months what are the trunk control expectations
6 months: Baby sits with assistance
9 months: Baby sits uniaded
What are the 9 Month Developmental Assessments?
(think 4 catagories)
- Posture & Large Movement:
- Sit alone 10-15mins on floor
- Progresses on floor- rolling/ squirming
- Attempts to crawl
- Fine Motor:
- Inferior Pincer grip
- Jargon: Babble & Intonational sounds
- Social behaviour & play: Clearly distinguishes strangers from familiars
At 12 months, what are the posture & large movements?
- Pulls to standing
- Walks around furniture
- May stand alone for few moments
- May walk alone
What are the development of complex gross motor patterns?
Developmental sequence beyond walking incorportates improved balance & coordination
- Running
- Jumping on 2 feet
- Hopping
- Skipping
What are the fine motor developmental milestones?
- Reflex hand grasp (disappears at 1 month)
- Voluntary grasp
- Bringing both hands to midline (2-3 months)
- Hold an object in either hand if placed (3 months)
- Hand used like a rake (4-5 months)
- Palmar grasp (bend fingers against the palm)
- Use hands independently to transfer objects across the midline (5-7 months)
- Inferior pincer grasp (9 months)
What is the fine motor development you’d expect to see dissappear @ 1months?

- 24 months imitates vertical or circular strokes
- 36 months Bridge
- 36 months copies circle
