  1. Developmental dysplasia of the hip in a first degree relative
  2. Breech presentation
  3. Abnormalities suggesting restricted fetal movement in utero

  1. Ultrasound of the hip is carried out to confirm diagnosis

Mx of developmental dysplasia of the hips?

A

A neonate is placed in ‘Pavlik harness’
– keeps hips flexed and abducted for several months so hip joint is put back into place
This allows the hips to develop properly

  1. If diagnosed in the neonatal period, prognosis is excellent
