DEVELOPMENT OF THE THYROID GLAND Flashcards
develops on
4th week
forms on the
the ventral floor of the pharynx at the place known as the foramen cecum
foramen cecum lies beteen
tuberculum impar and copula
foramen cecum is lined by
endoderm thus thyroid gland will be derived from endoderm
thyroid gland forms as ab invagination of
thyroglossal duct
thyroglossal duct originates from
foramen cecum and connect the developing tongue to the developing thyroid gland
the thyroglossal duct will develop a bifutip that develops into the thyroid gland
which from 2 lobes of the thyroid gland that are joined by isthmus
thyroid remains connected to thyroglossal duct and it will pass anterior to the cartilage of 2,3 P arch and by the 7th week it will
attain its adult position anterior to the tracheal rings
before its destination thyroglossal duct will degenerate but in some people, it persists to from
the pyramidal lobe of the thyroid gland
thyroglossal cysts
occurs when the thyroglossal duct did not degenerate and the cysts will lie anywhere in the migration path but mostly to inferior and superior to the hyoid
lingual thyroid
when thyroid gland failed to migrate from the tongue
