Four parts of self esteem - A psychologists view
A sense of belonging, where we feel part of a group or community. We do not feel isolated or alone
A sense of control, where we feel that we can control our lives, the things that happen to us and the way we respond to them
A sense of worthiness,where we feel that we are deserving of good things
A sense of dignity, where we have pride and respect for ourselves and others
If any of these four areas is weak or lacking, our self esteem becomes lower

In a balanced relationship people have equal power. In an unbalanced relationship one person has power over the others.

What will a person with less power in a balanced relationship often do?
Believe that the person with more power is better at making decisions and is more important than she/he is
Ask for the other person’s opinion on something before she/he makes a decision
Feel that she/he has less value as a person. The person with less power may find that his/her self esteem decreases

A person who exercises regularly produces higher than average amounts of beta-endorphin, a chemical released by your brain that increases pain tolerance, reduces the appetite, controls stress, and in general improves one’s mood. This hormone is one of nature’s antidepressants. Exercise is helpful not only in helping you to recover from depression but also in avoiding it.
