A
- To strategically invest and distribute National Lottery Funding for elite performer development in order to maximise the performance of UK athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The 2 channels for distributing NLF….
A
- Provide funding to NGB’s- which enables them to operate a World class programme covering all Olympic and Paralympic summer and winter sports.
- Provide funding directly to athletes- via an athlete personal award which contributes to their living and sporting costs once they have reached elite performance level.

Who else does UK sport provide funding to?
A
- They also provide funding to the National Institutes of Sport (e.g. EIS) and the BOA (British Olympic Association).
- This funding helps for Olympic Games preparations such as the Preparation camp in Belo Horizonte ahead of the Rio Games 2016.

Advantages of lottery funding in elite sport
A
1, Increased funding means more media coverage which raises the profile of sports
2. Allows the government to spend money on health/ elsewhere.
3. Provides competitive opportunities to play: if don’t have access to elite sports.

A
- Unreliable= pressure to do well or could withdraw funding.
- Small minority sports may be overlooked- Lack of funding may influence the type of sport a performer will go into.
- No support from the government/ government take all the credit.

A
- UK sport is the nations high performance sports agency investing in the Olympic and Paralympic sport.
- Working with partner organisations they run a number of centralised strategic support services across the UK including the development of ‘World class coaches’ for example, via the Elite Programme.
- This is delivered in conjunction with Sports Coach UK and is aimed at developing programme and innovations to support coaches involved in the World Class system.

- Lead agency involved in Talent ID programmes with the EIS providing host venues.
- UK sport is keen to develop lifestyles in young performers which enable elite performer progression to occur unimpeded by personal issues or work demands.
- Personal Lifestyle Advice has been developed by UK sport and delivered at National Institutes of Sport to help with mentor support and advice on issues such as time management, budgeting and so forth.
