Define : Trans-National Corporations (TNC)
Companies that operate in 2+ country and have a HQ in a developed country. E.g., McDonalds, Apple, Nike.
Define : Non-governmental Organisations (NGO)
Rely on funding sources and are non-profit. They play a major role international aid.
Define : Development Gap
The widening between the most developed countries an the least developed countries.
Define : Two-speed economy
The idea that economic growth, and therefore development, within the UK is uneven.
Define : Relative Poverty (will change)
Cannot live up to ‘normal’ standards. Living below the median income.
Define : Absolute Poverty (cannot change)
Conditions where the income is insufficient to provide necessities.
Define : Gross National Income (GNI) (per capita)
The value of a country’s goods and services, divided by the number of people living in that country.
High GNI = High Literacy Rate, Low Infant Mortality Rate, Better access to safe water.

Abuse of entrusted power for private gain

Refers to the seemingly endless situation of poverty.
Define : Bonded Labour
Working in exchange for a place to live.
Define : Low-income country (LIC)
Those with a GNI per capita of $1,086-$4,255.
Define : Newly industrialised country (NIC)
A country whose level of economic development is between developing and highly developed classifications.
Define : Urbanisation
The process of making an area more urban.
Define : Development
A broad concept linked to improving the quality of people’s lives.
Define : Rapid Development
Fast development that can be triggered by urbanisation and can have advantages and disadvantages.
