Development--gross motor skills Flashcards
Rolls purposefully from supine to prone
Assists with pull to sit; good head control
sit without support for up to a minute
prone-bears weight on palms with elbows extended for longer periods; can shift weight to reach out with one hand
Protective reaction emerge-forward, side, sitting
6 MONTHS
Can sit for a few seconds, propping with hands
brings feet to mouth
prone-bears weight on palms with elbows extended
prone- swimming motion
5 months
Prone- able to extend cspine and trunk for longer periods
may roll prone to supine (non segmental, accidental)
supine-roll to either side, brings hands to midline, brings feel to hands
near full head control
still requires support in sitting
head in line with body during pull to sit
4 months
begin to see more symmetry in movements
begin to orient hands, head and eyes to midline
prone- extends cspine and upper trunk, bearing weight on forearms for a few seconds
sitting- holds trunk off legs for at least 5 seconds
vision- can track 180 degrees
3 months
Pysiological flexion decreases
should bear weight in supported standing
supine-often keeps neck rotated to one side
sitting- should be able to hold head so there is a 45 degree angle between chin and chest
head lag present with pull to sit but should be able to keep back of head from touching back
beginning to hold head in midline when held at shoulder
1-2 months
phases of rolling:
newborn, spinal extension, automatic, deliberation
components of rolling:
spontaneous movement from supine to side and vice cersa, segmental body rotations, purposeful movement
spends little to no time in supine
pivots in prone
may begin to commando crawl
sits for longer periods and can do so while playing with a toy
7-8 months
assume quadruped and rocks back and forth
may begin crawling
scoots and pivots in sitting
pulls to stand
transitions in and out of sitting from various positions
9 months
protective reaction emerges-backwards
crawling (creeping) as primary means of mobility
begins cruising along furniture
lowers self to ground from standing
takes steps with hand held assistance
begins to stand for a few seconds without support
10-11 months
stands from the middle of the floor without external support
ball skills emerge (rolling, flinging)
takes steps without assistance
variability of walking onset (50% walk independently by ______ mo, infant walkers may delay walking by up to ___ days)
Will spend the next several months refining walking skills
12 months
–11.5 months, 26 days
walking is refined, including increased speed
creeps up-down stairs _____
walks up/down stairs ______
walks backwards
begins to kick ball - may just make contact with foot
begins to throw a ball over handed without falling
13-18 months
– 14-16 mo, 17-18 mo
walks sideways
jumping skills emerge
stair negotiation matures
throws ball over and underhand a few feet
kicks a ball several feet in a straight line
18-24 months
jumping skills improve (up, off surface, broad jump all increase in distance)
can walk on tip toes
catching a ball (trap against chest ____ mo, catch with arms extended _____ mo)
24mo-3 years
–26 mo, 34 mo
can pedal a tricycle
hop on one foot
running (start/stop on cue)
Stairs (reciprocal pattern up at ___ years, down at __ years)
3-4
–3, 4
