What is international aid?
International aid is where one country voluntarily transfers resources to another country.
What are inter-governmental agreements?
Inter-governmental agreements are agreements that are made between two or more governments with of cooperation.
What is foreign direct investment?
Foreign direct investment is when a company invests in a company in a different country.
What is top-down development?
Top-down development is development that happens through the actions of governments and tncs.
What is bottom-up development?
Bottom-up development happens through the actions of NGO’s working with communities.
How successful is top-down development?
Pros:
- Can access large sums of money.
- Can benefit thousands of people.
- Access to experts and latest technology.
Cons:
- Local people may not benefit.
- Can lead to poorly paid employment.
Where is India?
India is in the Northern Hemisphere. It is located in Asia and is one of the largest countries in the world by area.

It is a member of the world trade organisation and the United Nations.
What is India’s social context?
Regional: Population is divided over 20 states. Social ranks are known as castes.
Global: Over 20 million Indian groups are located in 100 countries.
Global: This generates income for its economy.
What are the 4 sectors?
Primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary.
What are India’s trading characteristics?
- During the 1990s, changes in India’s trading policies led to a rise in imports.
- In 2014, India was ranked 19th in the world for exporting merchandise.
- India’s key exports by value are oil, gems and jewellery.
- India’s key imports by value are crude oil, gold, silver and electrical goods.
What is India’s population structure?
In 1985, India’s population was 782 million and by 2015, it increased to 1.3 billion.
What is the life expectancy in India?
It has improved over the last 30 years, rising from 30 to 68.

Geopolitics is the impact of a country’s human and physical geography on its international politics and relations.
