What is rural to urban migration?
Rural to Urban migration is whereby people move from rural areas to urban areas in order to find a better quality of life.
What are the effects of urbanisation?
The effects are that shanty towns develop and start to emerge, pollution increases, the gap between the rich and poor widens and investment increases which leads to economic opportunities.
Where is Birmingham?
Birmingham is located in the West Midlands and is located in the centre of England.
What is the structure of Birmingham?
Birmingham’s CBD is it’s main hub of shopping, business, offices and theatres. It has recently been redeveloped and that has introduced new buildings such as the Bullring. Birmingham’s inner city was redeveloped in the 1970s and is where the tightly packed terraced houses are located. The suburbs are much lower in terms of building density and the urban-rural fringe is larger with fewer houses.
What are the causes of national migration?
In Birmingham, the main causes of people moving out is that the elderly want to retire in places such as Bournemouth. Whereas, people move to Birmingham due to the employment opportunities.
What are the impacts of migration in Birmingham?
Younger population, multiculturalism, ethnic communities, housing and services.
What are the impacts of deindustrialisation in Birmingham?
Developments in Transport, Decentralisation, Globalisation and Technological advances.
What is the quality of life like in Birmingham?
It is decent however there are problems such as the fact that there is limited public funding, some migrants don’t have skills for the jobs that are on offer, increasing population puts strain on health services, the provision of services hasn’t kept up with increasing demand and the available jobs don’t always need specific skills.
How has retailing changed in Birmingham?
There has been a decline in the CBD due to the fact that out of town shopping centres have emerged. Also there has been a rise in internet shopping.

Mexico City is located in Mexico in South America and the city is located on the central plateau.

Mexico City’s CBD is characterised by the office blocks and government buildings. It also attracts high value retailers. The inner-city is characterised by slums. The suburbs are characterised by middle-class housing.

Mexico City has grown massively over the last few years. The population of Mexico City has grown from 2 million in the 1950s to 19 million in 2010.

Natural increase, national and international migration and economic investment.

It has resulted in a large gap between the rich and poor.
