Sensorimotor - respond to stimuli in environment. Learn symbols (using words to represent things) and develop object permanence . Extends from birth to acquisition of language
Preoperational stage - 2 yrs old - 7 yrs old, do no understand concrete logic and cannot mentally manipular information, play w/ pretend, difficulty taking others point of view. Thinking is egocentric
Concrete operation 7 - 11 yr, appropriate use of logic reasoning. Ability to view others perspective
Formal operational stage - 12 yr - adulthood - abstract thought, metacognition, problem solving , deducitive reasoning
