what is a skill
the degree of effiency in performing a given task in order to achieve a predetermined outcome
what makes a skilled performer
- they are not affected by environmental influnces and as such perform well under pressure
- they execute simply skills perfectly on a regular basis
- they execute complex skills when others falter
- they make appropriate decisions on which skill to use
- they time their movements so that they are often in the right place at the right time
what is a strategy
considers a long term view of the team and overall plan. The stragtegys the team should develop look at the big picture. Strategies are normally prepared before commencement of compeitition but coaches adjust them as the circumstances of the competition change
what is a tactic
are the methods or actions a team or player plays to help move towards success achieveing the desired goal. Tactics vary with circumstances and will often change over time and due to different environement
invasion games
- have large numbers of compeitiors occupying the same area
- they are based around core principals: pass and move, maintain possesion and space
Examples: football, soccer, netball, rugby
net/wall sports
charactertised by smaller number of players. They key principal is to get the ball to the ground on the other teams court
Examples: tennis, badminton, squash, volleyball
aesthetics
are characterised by external subjective judgements or performance (qualitiative anaylisis) Examples: divind, gymnatsics, surfing
aquatics
refer to water based sports. The water creates unique obstacles that performers need to overcome
Examples: swimming, rowing, sailing, kayaking
combat
are based on outscoring or rendering unconcious the opponent by striking to legitamate areas of the body.
Examples: boxing, wrestling, martial arts
cycling
tatics involved in cycling are sheltering from the wind and risk of drag force rather than just strength tactics
Examples: road racing, track cycling, mountain biking
target
involve being the closest to a specific target
Example: golf, lawn bowls, archery, trap shooting
striking/feilding
involve striking a projected ball in order to redirect it away from feilders. Example: cricket, softball
athletics
characterised by maximal athlete performances with a highly specific end result
Example: cricket, softball
Extreme sports
characterised by percieved and real risk is beyound what is normally deemed acceptable
Example: rock climbing, skate boarding
attack principals of invasion/evasion games
1- creating space
2- holding players behind the ball
3- taking a defender out of play
4- motion offence
