Population health
health outcomes of a group of individuals, including the distribution of such outcomes within the group
Public health
supports population health by promoting and protecting the health of people and communities where they live, work, and play
Social determinants of health (definition)
the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work, and age
What are the social determinants of health
economic stability, neighborhood/physical environment, education, food, community and social context, healthcare system
What social determinants of health would having to pay for transportation fall under?

Health disparities
differences in health/healthcare between groups that stem from inequities
Income gradient
greater an income, the lower likelihood of disease, premature death, and other negative health outcomes
What broad factors determine health status?
biological/genetics, health behavior, health care, physical environment, social environment
Racism
structures, policies, practices, norms that assign value or determine opportunities based on how a person looks or the color of their skin
Federal Poverty Line (FPL)
the amount of income the federal government defines as being “in poverty”
