Detecting Lobar Collapse Flashcards
4 main patterns when looking at cxr
Consolidation
Lines
Dots/nodules shows a mass
Atelectasis
What are the direct signs of lobar collapse ?
Fissures displaces
Opacification of collapsed lobe due to loss of air
What are the indirect signs of a collapsed lobe on CXR?
Hilum displaced
Mediastinal shift towards collapsed side
Loss of vol in ipsilateral hemithorax
Ipsilateral diaphragm elevation
Crowding of ribs
Compensatory hyperlucency
Silhouette of diaphragm or heart boarder
Patterns of lobar collapse
More lobar collapse features
Golden s signs due to right hilar mass
Left upper lobe collapse
Luftsichel sign
Chronic middle lobe collpase
Lingular collpase
Opacification over lower lobes
Patients usually very sick and in pain. Shallow breathing.
Pneumonia with some form of collapse
Normal CTR
50%
LVH-apex move up and down
RVH-apex up and out
LAH-double density behind the heart
RAH-bulge at right heart boarder
TB pericarditis
Stages of congestive heart failure
Acute congestive heart failure
Pumpnary oedema due to non cardiac cause
Head injury
Renal failure
Drugs
Toxins
ARDS(acute respiratory distress syndrome)
Near drowning
