Design & Specification - Flash Cards - Level 3
Childrens Home, WSCC - What type of specification was produced and why?
Prescriptive specification, writing a specification for a non-load bearing partition is within my scope of competence. I was able to ensure that the partition was constructed to the standards agreed with the client.
Childrens Home, WSCC - What was included in the clients design guidance?
The client advised that I should refer to the design guidance, however the clients design guide referred to schools for items such as partitions. I was then required to adapt these requirements to suffice a residential setting.
Childrens Home, WSCC - Why do clients have design guidance?
To ensure continuity of design across assets, ease of maintain ace and using methodology that works for the client.
Childrens Home, WSCC - How did you incorporate residential requirements? Provide example?
I reviewed the acoustic requirements for schools in the BRs which referred to BB93, as this is not a school I then referred back to the BRs to obtain the acoustic requirement for new walls - Min 25mm with amin density of 10kg/m3.
Childrens Home, WSCC - How did you consider impact damage?
Within the specification I allowed for a 12mm ply lining to the timber frame, provided strength and impact protection. I also used the BG white book to specify the BG Duraline board which is a higher density board for impact protection.
Childrens Home, WSCC - How did you consider the transfer of sound?
Clinet required 54db minimum, therefore I needed a minimum of 50mm Isover insulation, 15mm duraline board and skim plaster coat.
Childrens Home, WSCC - Why did you use the British Gypsum White Book?
I used the BG white book for guidance to ensue that the partitions were specified and constructed to achieve British Standards and Building Regulations
Childrens Home, WSCC - What other information did you use to aid the specification?
I make reference to the approve documents, Part E - Sound, Part B - Fire in conjunction with the fire strategy plan, Part M - consideration of internal doors, colour contrast between the walls.
Childrens Home, WSCC - What information was provided as part of the specification?
Specification document, floorplan, partition section.
Childrens Home, WSCC - What was the proposal and why was this option recommended?
Use of timber partitions, durability, flexibility, adaptability, cost, fixing into existing structure.
Childrens Home, WSCC - What additional properties did you advise the client on?
Added sound insulation, addition timbers at door openings, ply lining, room layout changes.
Childrens Home, WSCC - How did you ensure longevity of the proposal?
Ensured that I used specifying tools to backup my recommendations of using ply lining / BG duraline board.
HDP, WSCC - What did you include within the RIBA reports?
Exec summary, introduction, site information, design development, statutory requires, survey information, programme, risks, procurement, heath and safety, cost estimate.
HDP, WSCC - What recommendations are made to the client in a RIBA report?
Survey recommendations, design development, statutory approvals.
HDP, WSCC - How did you ensure designs were reviewed?
Completed a design QA following designers release to ensure as design information is present and that correct information has been included.
