Q

Windows, Castlewood - How are aluminium units more thermal efficient and more hard wearing?

A

Aluminium units are thermally broken where the frame is broken inside utilising a poor conductor like GRP to join the inner and outer frame together. They also do not require decoration once powder coated.

20
Q

HDP, WSCC - What is a design development log and why did you use one?

A

A design development log tracks change of design and stakeholder engagement. Needed as an auditable record of change to be referred back to.

21
Q

HDP, WSCC - Why do you need change control registers on a project?

A

Change control registers are needed on a project so that change is auditable, you can identify when change was raised and who it was approved and declined by.

22
Q

HDP, WSCC - What are the PDs duties under CDM?

A

Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety pre construction phase. Help advise the client on pre construction duties, and provide info to designers and contractors. Work with designers to eliminate risk and implement reduction and control measures. Ensure all parties communicate. Liaise with principle contractor.

23
Q

HDP, WSCC - Why do you use a design risk register?

A

To collate all risks in one place which will help show the progression of the reduction and management of risks.

24
Q

HDP, WSCC - Provide an example of a risk that was mitigated through design development?

A

When adding additional plant to an area without lighting, the DRA established that due to the amount of plant it would be beneficial to add lighting for maintenance.

25
Q

HDP, WSCC - What are your duties under CDM?

A

Make sure client is aware of duties. When doing design, take in to account PCI, eliminate, reduce and mitigate risks. Provide design information for the PCI, client and contractor to complete their duties. Communicate.

26
Q

HDP, WSCC - What are the clients duties under CDM?

A

Make suitable arrangements, appointing contractors and designers. Allow sufficient time and resource for each stage. Make sure the PD and PC carry out duties. Ensure there are suitable welfare facilities. Issue F10.

27
Q

Windows, Castlewood - What needed to be included in the Castlewood performance specification to ensure that it is compliant with building regulations?

A

Reference to the required building regulations i.e. Part F, Part L, Part M & Part K. Building control full plans approval was required.
