Design Limitations Flashcards
In straight and level flight, what will Load Factor be
1 (Lift = Weight)
In a steep turn, Load Factor is MORE or LESS than straight and level flight
MORE
Lift > Weight
Forces no longer equal as lift acts perpendicular to aerofoil. Weight continues to act straight down, but lift now acting with a horizontal component.
More lift required to counteract the loss of lift. Done by increasing AoA in turn
This creates centrifugal opposite reaction. The resultant force of centrifugal force and weight is G Load
What are 4 factors that can influence G load
- Turning
- Wind Gusts
- Pilot excessive control inputs
- Turbulent air
