Design, Environment and Ergonomics Flashcards
Global warming
A layer of greenhouse gases in the upper atmosphere traps heat from the sun and prevents it from reflecting back into the outer atmosphere and beyond. This is said to be raising the temperature of our atmosphere and may be leading to climate change.
Greenhouse gases
Gases such as carbon dioxide produced as a result of burning fossil fuels. These have been linked to global warming
Ergonomics
The study of the interaction between the human body, products and environments
50th percentile
The average or most common anthropometric measurements from a sample
95th percentile
the upper limiting anthropometric measurement. Designers usually produce designs suitable for body sizes between the 5th and 95th percentile as this take in the majority of users.
British Standards Institution (BSI)
An organisation dedicated to producing British (BS) and European (EN) quality and safety standards, and testing products against those standards for companies wishing to register their products.
