Desflurane Flashcards
Desflurane Pulmonary effects
- respiratory similar to enflurane and slightly less than isoflurane
- extrememly noxious pulmonary irritant
- not recommended for inhalation induction and probably a poor choice for patients with reactive airway disease
- respiratory depressant
- very slight tachypnea

Desflurane Cardiovascular Effects: autonomic reflexes blcoke
causes more myocardial depression and arterial vasodilation as iso
Desflurane Cardiovascular Effects: autonomic reflexes left in tact
less myocardial depression and arterial vasodilation and greater tachycardia than iso
Desflurane Cardiovascular Effects: autonomic tone
important in the CV responses of des
Desflurane Cardiovascular Effects: BP
abrupt increase in des increase BP 30 mmHg increases HR 30 bpm, doubles SNS activity, increases plasma epinephrine
Desflurane Cardiovascular Effects: MI
evidence of no MI ischemia in patient receiving des compared to iso or sufentanil
Desflurane Cardiovascular Effects: Beware
tachycardia greatly impacts coronary blood flow causing possible ischemia
Desflurane Neuro Effects: MEPs
does not affect
