What is desertification?
It is the persistent degradation of dryland ecosystems by climatic patterns and human activity.
What are some examples of activities that degrade drylands?
Over cropping, deforestation, unreliable rainfall, construction and recreational activities, overgrazing, pollution, climate change.
What are drylands?
Regions that don’t get much rain, and water that may fall might evaporate quickly.
Where is the Sahel?
Sahel is a semi-arid region in the western, north-central region of Africa.
What are the countries in the Sahel?
Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, Chad, Sudan, and Eritrea.

What does arid mean?
