Literary devices
What is descriptive writing?
To describe a person, place or thing in such a way that a picture is formed in the reader’s mind.
What are Synonyms?
A word which means the same or almost the same as another word. Eg. Smat-Intelligent, wise, clever, genious
What are Antonyms?
A word which means the opposite or nearly the opposte as another word. Eg. Afraid- brave, courageous, fearless, mighty
What are Adjectives?
Adjectives are words that describe nouns or pronouns by giving details about their qualities. Examples include big, happy, or blue.
What are Nouns?
Nouns are words that name people, places, things, or ideas. Examples include dog, cat, table, city, happiness, idea, and friend.
What are Pronouns?
Pronouns are words used instead of nouns to avoid repeating the same nouns. Examples include he, she, it, they, this, that, and who.
What are Verbs?
Verbs are words that show actions or states. Examples include run, eat, or sleep.
What are Adverbs?
Adverbs are words that describe how, when, where, or to what extent something happens. Examples include quickly, often, and very.
What are Literary Devices?
Techniques and styles used by writers to enhance writing.
What is a Personification?
Giving objects or animals human like qualities or attributes. Eg. the car dances across the ice.
What is a Similie?
A comparison between two things using like or as.
What is a Hyperbole?
Making something seem bigger than it is. Eg. It is raining cats and dogs.
What is an Onomatopea?
A word that is the sound that the action makes. eg. Boom, Crack.
What is an Alliteration?
The repetition of consonant sounds/ tongue twisters. Eg. Nelly never noticed Niel’s niceness.
What is a Metaphor?
A direct comparison between two things without the use of like or as. Eg. He is a bamboo.
