Overt Racism
When individual consciously commits an act with the intent of harming a certain individual or group because of their racial or ethnic background
Legislative Racism
When governments pass legislation that enables the systematic practice of racial or ethnic discrimination
ex. Jim Crow Laws, Jap-Cad interment
Institutional or Systemic Racism
When policies or programs might appear racially neutral but either intentionally or unintentionally disadvantages a minority group
Naturalized Racism
when racially discriminatory beliefs and practices of individuals or instituions become normalized and are no longer perceived as discriminatory
Internalized Racism
when an individual from an ethnic minority group consciously or subconsciously accepts the validity of racially discriminatory beliefs or practices
