describing angular movements Flashcards
What are the types of angular motion?
what are the cardinal planes and their movements
sagittal plane - rotate around mediolateral axis
frontal plane - rotate around anteroposterior axis
transverse plane - rotate around longitudinal axis
What challenges exist when studying angular movements of the human body?
joints often don’t rotate around fixed axis, must estimate. e.g. tib on femur slide a bit.
describe a radian
angle/amount in a circle
- all 3 side lengths are equal in a triangle cut out of a circle
- makes a 57.3 degree angle at the axis of rotation
- 6.28 radians in a circle (360/57.3 or 2pi)
describe pitch, yaw and roll
pitch - sagittal plane (like a pitcher of beer)
yaw - transverse plane (left/right control of a plane)
roll - rotate along frontal plane
difference between angular distance (phi o vertical strike) and angular displacement (theta o horizontal strike)
phi = total distance travelled around arc length
theta = angular displacement
difference between angular speed (sigma - o) and angular velocity (omega - w)
sigma = angular distance over time
omega = angular velocity over time. Direction and magnitude included, measured in radians
what does the alpha sign mean (looks like “a”)
angular acceleration (change in angular velocity, radians per second)
