defining torque Flashcards
what is torque
Identify the factors that determine the effect a torque will have.
Identify the various types of levers found in the human body and purpose.
What type of force produces both translation and rotation?
Identify the factors that influence the size of the torque?
Define the term mechanical advantage? What does the mechanical advantage tell you about a system?
what are the three types of levers and example of each
First class lever - effort - fulcrum - resistance (seesaw)
Second class lever - fulcrum - resistance - (force wheelbarrow)
Third class lever - fulcrum - effort - load (speed lever bicep)
centre of gravity
point where weight is equally distributed
centric force
act directly through centre
eccentric force
act off centre, to cause rotation
couple
pair of forces equal in distance from centre of mass acting in opposite directions cause object to rotate without translation (pure moment)
pure moment
type of force causes rotation with no translation (a couple)
moment arm
perpendicular distance between line of action of force and pivot point
resistance arm
distance from axis of rotation to where effort applied
