Q

wHAT ARE THE RULES OF 2 FOR TRAUMA RDIOGRAPHS?

A

2 angles, 2 joimts (above and below), 2 bones (eg tib fib/radius ulnar), 2 occasinos eg scaphoid -> might only show up on an xray 7-14 days after the incident.

Q

Shape: what are these due to?:
Transveres, oblique, spiral, complex

What doe a spiral fracturelook like?

A

Transverse - straight across -> direct blow to the side
Oblique -> bend, force at an angle
Spiral -> rotational fprce

Spiral fracture looks like a spiral lol, so like a spikey fairground ride you slide around and around down.

Q

Comminution meaning?

A

Multiple breats/fractures in a single bone (eg a straight clean fracture of tib and fib doesn’t have any comminution). Often the case in complex fractures

Q

How what do we use to describe deformity? and how?

A

-DISPLACEMENT (% diameter of bone)
-ANGULATION (degrees)
-ROTATION (degrees)
-AXIAL DEFORMITY (cm)

(DARA)

Q

hOW DO WE DESCRIBE ANGULATION? vARUS/VALGUS MEANING?

A

Anterior, posterior, valgus (away from (abducted) think vulgar), and Varus = medially (towards)

Q

hoW DO WE DESCRIBE ROTATION? dO WE GET NMOST OF OUR FEEDBACK FROM THE XTRAY?

A

Internal vs external , look at the surrounding joints and which direction they are pointing! We can get most of this info from the clnical side of things

16
Q

hOW CAN WE SEE A ROTATIONANL FRACTURE?

A

Mix match of configuration, different diameters above/below, different orientation above/below

17
Q

cAN WE SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN BLOOD AND FAT IN FLUID?oPACITIES (bLACK BITS) CAN BE GAS -> COULD BE DUE TO WHATaVULSION MEANS WHAT?

A

yes! So you can see in fluid if there is a fluid line it could be the separation between oedema (water) and blood.

gAs -> could be due to bacteria

Avulsion = bone has broken away
