Describe Gaseous Exchange Flashcards

1
Q

Explain gas movement in alveoli

A

The amount of PO2 and PCO2 in the blood stream and lungs are different and due to the difference in pressure, there is a pressure differential.
Due to the process of diffusion, the O2 and CO2 molecules swap places as the levels of O2 in the alveoli is HIGH and the level of O2 in the blood is LOW.
The Level of CO2 in the blood is HIGH and level of O2 is LOW.
Blood entering lung in pulmonary artery = LOW pO2 and HIGH pCO2
Blood leaving lung in pulmonary vein = HIGH pO2 and LOW pCO2
