Dermatomes & Myotomes Flashcards
Define Dermatome
A unilateral area of skin innervated by fibers from a single spinal nerve originating from a single spinal cord segment
- dermatomes are SENSORY - there is overlap between dermatome regions

Definition of Myotomes
Myotomes are motor fibers acting on a specific region of the body
Specific Muscle Groups Innervated by Myotomes (Spinal Nerves)
C5 - Upper Extremity Abductors (deltoid, biceps)
C5/6 - Forearm Flexors (biceps, brachioradialis); Forearm Pronators
C7 - Forearm Extensor (triceps); Wrist & Finger Extensors
C8/T1 - Intrinsic Hand Muscles
L2 - Thigh Flexion (iliopsoas
L3/4 - Leg Extension (Quadriceps & Knee Jerk Reflection)
L4/5 - Foot Dorsiflexors & Toe Extensors (Anterior tibial muscles)
S1/2 - Foot Plantar & Toe Flexors (Posterior Tibial Muscles & Achilles’ tendon reflex)
S2/3/4 - Anal Contraction

Upper Extremity Abductors
- Deltoid & Biceps brachii
