Describe the route of the cephalic vein
Identified running proximally on the lateral side of the anterior forearm then arm.
What is the section of the cephalic vein on the lateral aspect of the distal forearm called and what is it used for ?
Called the housemans vein and used often for a cannula
Describe the route of the basilic vein and identify where it becomes the brachial vein
Runs proximally on the medial aspect of the anterior forearm.
Pierces the deep fascia to become the brachial vein at about mid-arm level
Where does both the brachial and cephalic veins originate from ?
Both originate from the dorsal venous network (not it is dorsal venous arch on the foot)
What vein is very commonly used for venepuncture ?
Cubital vein
