What are the two symptoms someone must have (one of) to get a diagnosis of MDD?
(1) Depressed mood most of the day nearly every day (2) Loss of interest or pleasure in all/almost all activities for most of the day/nearly every day
What are the other 7 symptoms of MDD?
(3) Significant weight loss OR gain
(4) Insomnia (nearly every day)
(5) Psychomotor agitation or retardation that is OBERSVABLE
(6) Fatigue
(7) Feelings of worthlessness or excessive/inappropriate guilt
(8) Indecisiveness, inability to think or concentrate (subjective or objective)
(9) Recurrent thoughts of death or SI
How many symptoms of MDD does a patient need for the diagnosis?
Patient needs 5 (or more), with ONE of them being (1) or (2) during the same 2 week period and represent a change from previous functioning.
