what’s a behavioural characteristics of depression?
- causes reduced levels of energy making them lethargic .has a knock on effect making them withdraw from work ,education and social life. can even make a person not get out of bed .can also make someone psychomotor to agitation make them struggle to relax pacing up and down a room.
-also causes change to sleeping behaviour making reduce sleep also may increase or decrease appetite leading to weight gain or loss. - can lead to verbally or physically aggressive people for example, verbal aggression by ending a relationship or quitting a job it can also lead to physical aggression against the self including self harm in the form of cutting or suicide attempt
Evaluate most characteristics of depression?
When you’re depressed, you have a lowered mood meaning you are sad. They often see themselves as worthless and empty.
Anger – the experience more negative emotions and few positive ones during depression also frequently experience anger and have self harming behaviour towards others or to themselves
Self-esteem – have reduced self-esteem they like themselves less than usual i.e. they hate themselves/self loathing
evaluate cognitive characteristics of depression?
Poor concentration- they normally have poor levels of concentration unable to stick with tasks they normally would do and find it hard to make decisions they find straight forward
Attending to dwelling on the negative - pay more attention to the negative things than the positives and they more glass half empty than half full
Absolutist thinking - when a person is depressive, think of these terms they call these black-and-white thinking. this means when they see a situation they see it as a disaster
