What is a spit?
A
Attached to land at one end, and finishes in a sea - composed of sand

What is a tombolo?
A
They develop when a spit joins an island to the mainland

When does a bar occur?
A
When there is a change in coastal direction but no river estuary to break the sequence of sedimentation along the spit - sheltered area

What is a barrier beach?
A
Elongated bank of sand lying parallel to the coastline and not submerged by incoming tides
