A hard engineering scheme to prevent coastal flooding - protect estuaries against the sea and acts as a dam

What does the barrage consist of?
An 800 metre embankment and a 300 metre concrete section containing locks, sluices and a control building
What are sluice gates?
A fundamental and vital flood defence feature of the barrage as they dissipate wave energy

What are the benefits of the barrage?
