what are in denture cleanser

A

most commonly alkaline peroxides

  • oxidising agents like alkaline perborate, sodium perborate or potassium monopersulfate–> remove staining, kills bacteria on denture surface
  • reducing agent like sodium hypochlorite

-effervescing agents: perboratae, carbonate or citric acid, allow rapid disintegration of product, create mechanical cleansing action

-chelating agents like EDTA which helps remove tartar accumulated on denture surface

  • detergents like sodium polyphosphate
  • disinfectant like gluteraldehyde, potassium permanganate
