adhesive system Flashcards
what is the appearance of smear layer, and where can it be
amorphous, irregular and granular appearance
can be superficial & loosely attached
what is hybrid layer
resin interlocking in demineralised dentine surface
what does dentin conditioner do
deminieralises dentine, exposes collagen fibril network w interfibrillar spaces
what affects the adhesion between CR and dentine
- smear layer
- dentinal tubules being filled with dentinal fluid
- dynamic structure
- contains vital odontoblasts and processes of pulp
- too close to the pulp, where chemicals for etching and bonding may irritate pulp
Why is a good amount of water needed for adhesion of dentine
water keeps the collagen network plasticised, keeps it from collapsing so there is space for adhesive to penetrate, but cannot have too much water as it may compete with the primer and prevent hybridisation.
What kind of primer are there
alcohol based to remove excess water( in a wet dentine situation)
water based primer( in a dry dentine situation)
