parent to child
professional has high control
patient is passive
= disease centered
Describe A Mutalistic Relationship
adult to adult
control is equal
= patient-centered
recognises the patient as expert
Describe A Consumerist Relationship
treatment is seen as a commodity or service
- e.g. private
promoted by the government
Describe A Default Relationship
neither party are satisfied
neither have much control
can have referrals and investigation with no responsibility for the patient
Why is a Mutalistic Relationship Effective?
patient-centered
explores the reasons for visits and an understanding of their life
- find common ground and mutual agreement on treatment
- continuing relationship builds rapport
= enhances prevention
= enhances health promotion
What is Transference?
when you are reminded of someone from the past who brought strong emotions
- can feel the same emotions with new interactions
- reasons are subconscious
What is Transactional Analysis
analysing social interactions
based on the ego state model
What are the 3 Ego States that Influence Interactions? Explain them.
Adult
- a rational, objective state
- emotions do not excessively influence beliefs, thoughts and behaviours
Parent
- when a person responds to a situation in an unconscious way or how their parents/authority figures acted
Child
- when a person responds similarly to their childhood
What is a Crossed Transaction?
a person attempts to communicate in a role and the other person responds inappropriately
What is a Successful Transaction
mutuality in the consultation
