exposed dentine resulting in pain response to an external stimulus

A
pain (sharp, sudden and short lived)
exposed root surface as a result of gingival recession

management of dentine hypersensitivity
A
advise patient to avoid acidic food and drink
use desensitising toothpaste topically
eliminate any other causes of dental pain
use topical medicaments - fluoride varnish/ dentine bonding agents over exposed surfaces
