A

Functions:
* Removing unsupported enamel
* Refining cavity preparations
* Edges are sharp
* Mesial and Distal versions

Helpful hints:
* Mesial trimmer - the point of the edge is close to the handle (Mesial is most close)
* Distal trimmer - the point of the edge is furthest away (Distant)
* On the trays we don’t mind too much which way they are as long as they are in the correct position on the tray

A

Functions:
* Condenses Amalgam into a cavity
* The working end is flat in order to apply pressure to the area
* Which plugger size you use depends on the size of your cavity

Helpful hints:
* Also known as a condenser
* There is another type called Mortonson-Clevedent
* Can be double or single-ended
* The ones in SDLE have a large end and a small end

* Holds a matrix band securely
* Assembled in different ways to accomodate working in different quadrants in the mouth

* There is another type of siqveland matrix bands
* Also available as disposable plastic (Omnimatrix)
* The retainer is autoclavable but the band is single use (goes in the sharps bin)
* Matrix bands are in the boxes on your pod

Helpful hints:
* Locking and unlocked varieties. Instrument trays in SDLE tend to have unlocked College tweezers
* Locking tweezers prevent materials being dropped
* Working ends can be straight/curved/serrated or smooth

A

Functions:
* Keeps articulating paper secure whilst checking occlusion

Helpful hints:
* The articulating paper must be 5mm longer than the forceps when checking posterior restorations, otherwise the patient may bite down on the forceps
