Caries risk assessment Flashcards
1
Q
Give me the list to identify if an individual is to be classified standard risk?
A
- Early un-cavitated lesions: No early signs of tooth decay, there will be no actual cavities at this stage.
- Cavitated primary or secondary lesions: No cavities, or any restorations looking like it’s deteriorating (any sort of degradations to any restorations).
- Factors increasing caries risk: Nothing making cavities more likely.
2
Q
Give me the factors to classify an individual as increased risk/giving concern?
A
- Two or more early uncavitated lesions.
- One or more cavitated primary or secondary carious lesions.
- Presence of at least one factor that may increase caries risk.
3
Q
What are the different caries risk factors?
A
- Evidence of early/cavitated carious lesions.

- inadequate or impaired protection by saliva.
- Poor oral hygiene
- suboptimal fluoride exposures.
- evidence of poor dietary habits - >4 sugar intakes.
- Poor social history/socioeconomic status.
