dental 4 Flashcards
what is light
charicteristics
equations
detection
the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum within the range of380-750nm
speed of light 300 000km/s
speed of light= wavelength * frequency
color is detected by cone cells in the retina and is most sensitive to green
what is color fatigue
the constant stimulus of a color may decrease the detection of that color
Munsell color system
hue -color ( associated with the wavelength of light )
chroma-measure of color intensity
value- the brightness of a color
color- primary, secondary
primary color - blue, red, yellow
secondary - a mix of primary
complementary color - colors opposite each other on the colour wheel- when you mix complementary colors equally you produce a grey
when you have more than 1 color than the other, the larger amount is presented but with a lower density and increased greyness
Metamerism
the concept where the light will determine what color the tooth will be. the tooth may have a color matching under artificial light but not under natural light or vice versa
metameric couple
2 objects that are matched under one light source but not the other
translucency
amount of light transmitted and scattered by the object
only transmits 50% of light
high translucency- lighter color in appearance
op is opacity
opacity and equation
opal effect
opaque
amount of light it can absorb or scatter- the extent to which no light does not pass through a material therefore no image or light can be seen through an opaque object.
opal effect- reflects rays with shorter wavelengths and lets through long wavelengths
opaque - object that reflects or absorbs light
opacity = intensity of incident light/ intensity of transmitted light
gloss
surface gloss produces a lustrous appearance
increase gloss= smoother surface, decrease surface roughness and decrease the effect of color difference because the color of reflected light is more prominent
flouresance
a specific body absorbs a specific wavelength and emits light with a longer wavelength
