Experiment to Find the Density of a Cube or Cuboid

A
  1. Find the mass of the solid using a balance
  2. Measure the length (l), width (w) and height (h) of the object
  3. Calculate the volume of the object (V= lxwxh)
  4. Calculate the density using the formula: ρ=m/v

Experiment to Find the Density of Irregular Shaped objects

A
  1. Find the mass of the solid using a balance
  2. Fill the Eureka Can to the brim with water
  3. Place a measuring cylinder below the spout of the Eureka Can
  4. Drop the object into the Eureka Can, the displaced water will come out of the spout
  5. The volume of water displaced is equal to the volume of the solid
  6. Find the density of the solid using the equation: ρ=m/v

Q

Experiment to Find the Density of Liquids

A
  1. Find the volume of the liquid using a measuring cylinder
  2. Find the mass of the empty measuring cylinder using a balance
  3. Find the total mass of the measuring cylinder plus the liquid using a balance
  4. Subtract the mass of the empty measuring cylinder from the total mass. This will give you the mass of just the liquid
  5. Find the density of the liquid using the formula: ρ=m/v
