Convection Flashcards
What is Convection?
Convection is the transfer of energy by heating due to the movement of particles in a fluid.
Convection Process Step 1
Fluid next to the heat source warms up and gains energy
Convection Process Step 2
Warm fluid expands
Convection Process Step 3
Warm fluid becomes less dense
Convection Process Step 4
Warm fluid rises
Convection Process Step 5
Warm fluid is pushed along by more rising behind it
Convection Process Step 6
Away from the heat source, fluid cools down and loses energy
Convection Process Step 7
Cool fluid contracts
Convection Process Step 8
Cool fluid becomes more dense
Convection Process Step 9
Cool fluid sinks
Convection Process Step 10
Process repeats over and over, setting up a convection current
What is fluid?
A liquid or gas
